I got this today from Alternet, where I get most of my news. I find it to be a helpful asset in seeing the other side of the coin.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm excited to announce that the new AlterNet - handsome and spiffy - with a number of exciting new features, will debut on Tuesday morning. Please make sure to come visit.
In addition to looking great for a new decade, four of our key goals in upgrading are: to provide you, our readers, much more opportunity to express your opinion in a major public way; give you opportunities to "Take Action" on the issues and events you care most about, including Haiti and Health Care; get you news faster and more often; and give you new topics in which you are interested.
* First, beginning now, any reader who wants to share information and opinion with our entire audience can sign up at SoapBox for your own personal profile and your writing will appear on AlterNet beginning on Tuesday morning.
Call it blogging, offering your point of view, or linking to something you feel shouldn't be missed, your writing will appear on the SoapBox page, and the front page of AlterNet. The reader written items voted up by the community will also be featured in SpeakEasy, our Super Blog and in the SpeakEasy Newsletter.
* Second, you will want to start visiting AlterNet for updated news all day long. We will be posting breaking stories you won't want to miss.
Also, we are launching the first ever Progressive News Wire, where we will keep you up-to-date hourly on breaking news from almost exclusively progressive sources. We will cull from more than 20 of the best progressive sites including Raw Story, The Daily Kos, Talking Points Memo, Mother Jones, etc. We thought it about time that progressives had a news wire instead of us being dependent on the corporate perspective of the AP, Reuters, etc.
* Third, we have created a NEW Take Action Page, to provide information and opportunities for readers to act on campaigns that are breaking, to be hands-on participants in pushing for social change.
* And we are creating two new special coverage areas - Food and Investigations - for you to sign up for newsletters that will be delivered to your mailbox every week. Food is the subject that readers have flocked to in the past year, so we want to deliver for you. Investigations will track the best of investigative reporting, on AlterNet, and all over the web. Please go here to sign up, and also consider our 12 other newsletters, especially the SpeakEasy Newsletter, where SoapBox, our readers' writing, will be featured.
I hope you like our new redesigned look, and new features. We will continue to roll out changes going forward.
We would not have been able to keep improving AlterNet if it wasn't for your support. Our end-of the year fund raising campaign brought in $139,000, which was well over our goal of $100,000 and helps us serve you better.
