This is what i experimented with these last few days: orange peel, don't throw it out, clean it, chop it small, put it in a ziplock and freeze it. It makes a great accompaniment with regular tea. Crab apples, do the same - except throw the apple parts in the tea and sip them down. The tannin/bitter from the apples is nullified when added to the hot liquid. I made a tea with lipton and cranberry leaves today, then went for a walk in the swamp, i had to take a healthy leak every fifteen minutes. The cranberry leave are bitter but one of the the medicinal qualities is as a diuretic(sp), cleans out the urinery tract. Guess it works. Found loads of coral mushrooms, took a mental note and checked them out in my field guide. That type is edible, the ones that are not won't kill - but will keep you on the toilet for a few days. I'll pick a small bags worth, cook a spoonfull and see what the rave is all about. Acorns next week.

I had it just once, my son made it. It has a delightful fresh citrus flavor and sensation that goes well with chocolate. Right on with the cranberries and the urinary tract. The universe provides the things we need. That thought produces another in my mind. Everything came from a single source and it appears now that it works together to meet our needs.

I have also added orange peal to the smoothies I make. It gives a really nice fresh taste as well as providing bioflavnoids. .

This got me thinking, how about grating citrus peel, mixing it with water - then adding it to the ice tray>ice box, to be used later as a cube added to a pot of water? Hmmmm. Adding it to the smoothies is a good idea.

Orange peel is also used in cooking, as in Szechuan orange chicken, for instance.

There ya go! Speaking of foraging, I've been out with Wild Man Steve Brill when I used to live in NYC. He's still at it, too. I also met Tom Brown, the author of *Tracker* etc., from my beloved Pine Barrens, but my quick impression of him was not so good.

Does Taj know about this? Yes. The 90 year old in question also gave me a chair. Seems a sweet old lady, she most likely knows a lot about the lore of the area. I had a couple of old neighbors that would bring me vegetables from their garden, sometimes Mrs. Pilot would stop over for a chit-chat. In turn i would bring over wood scraps from work for their wood stove. They both passed on in their early eighties.

Have been doing a lot of walking lately, yesterday was through a swamp, then ended up on a beach, it was pristine. Found a few conch shells, there were a multitude smaller shells and wave tumbled stones scattered around. Noticed on the way back there were cranberries and rose-hips still hanging onto their respective plant. Good winter foraging for the birds.

I enjoy talking to people who remembers the way things were before it all shit the bed.
