How you all doing?
Been a long time but I come by to visit me old mates and have a go at a topic here what I think is worthy of discussion.
The last time I saw a half way decent fight was B.Hop getting robbed up in Canada last December. Boxing is DEAD.
None of the top titlist will fight each other...but we'll get to see them shine against subpar comp. Who the fuck wants to watch a fight where you KNOW who's gonna win? For that...watch FNF and get some good insights from Teddy while you watch hideous mismatches that feature a future star that will be manufactured based on fighting a bunch of scrubs like the guy he's in with right then and there....
Why not have a legit rankings system, where fighters EARN their spot on the ladder of contention? This way, you rise to the top because you're the best, not cause you fought a bunch of washed up suckers.
This is what happens when you have a "sport" that behaves like a gangster controlled series of "events" where a guy who's been propped up by the establishment (the gangsters like DLHomo, Arum, etc.) who only fights on PPV and only fights guys who are well past their prime but still famous. The undercards are always atrocious and frankly...the judging is so biased (in the event that the favorite comes up short of being KO'd) and you have so many so called champions that you have NO champions at all. After all, Champion means the ONE...not the bunch. This ain't a team sport, its an individual sport. Why don't the titlists fight each other? In that process...they'd establish one true Champ in each division and boxing would NATURALLY become exciting, explosive and commercially viable again.
Someone needs to tell that to the IDIOTS who run boxing today. And why in fucks name would HBO and Showtime run boxing shows AT THE SAME FUCKING TIME!!! How stupid are they?
Are we supposed to compete for which channel we're more loyal to? What about the fact that there are so few decent fights these days and the media should do a better job of allowing ALL the fights to be seen on the same night at different times. We're supposed to be fight fans, not HBO fans or Showtime fans...how fucking stupid do they think we are?
I mean, we ARE stupid...but we ain't THAT stupid...at least not all of us.
I wanna see good competitive match ups, not Pacman vs. Oldman for 60 bucks. Fuck that.
Thoughts?

Boxing is dying it seems. Most of the younger crowd doesn't even watch it anymore and watches the UFC etc. instead.

The trouble with boxing is the organization or lack there of that coordinates the business aspect of the sport.

boxers and promotors and their entourage today want to earn as much as possible with as least risk as possible. same as anyone i suppose, it just where boxing is concerned its the fan who gets shafted and left with a bitter taste in the mouth
a lack of a single unified body at the top is also terrible. look at the UFC - for all its bad qualities, at least the very best in that organization WILL fight the very best - matches are decided by a single body, not several greedy self serving promotors

Is it on the up and up as competition? Wrestling does that and its a sham. But they do have a successful marketing strategy. UFC has that too. I like kick boxing but not the grappling and thrashing around on the floor.

UFC fighters are actually paid peanuts. the top boxers make tens of millions per fight. the UFCs best p4p fighter was paid $200,000 for his last fight. they make a lot more than that through sponsorships, but the UFC themselves pay peanuts its on the up and up alright. im not sure if its already taken over boxing in the States in terms of popularity, but if its not then its not far behind. its one of the fastest growing sports in the world if its more kickboxing youd like, be sure to catch the K1 tournament (look for clips on it on youtube)

That's about all I know, its big here. its big bro, but its not the same as boxing. you had it much better growing up in such a fantastic era of boxing. the current generation wont know what that was like There were all time greats in many divisions when I was in high school Liston, clay, Patterson, Frazier, Ali. I got spoiled by Ali and the saddest night of boxing for me was seeing Larry Holmes hurt him. I saw (tv) Mancini kill the Korean boxer. Great fight to the finish. I believe the kid was killed by hitting his head on the canvas apron. The fight was a tough give and take fight and an no point until the final knockdown was it able to be legitimately stopped. I tell you I would have loved to see Mancini fight either Gatti or Ward in their prime. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ThQFPJpVtK8I saw Hagler Hearns live on closed circuit tv in Syracuse an hours drive away. www.youtube.com/watch?v=9VI-M9Yw-28I want to tell you I drove home that night by myself in awe of what I had seen. Animal savagery at an intensity I have never seen before or after in a prize fight. It was like Ali - Frazier One compressed into less than 3 rounds. Saw this one too. Mancini - Arguello www.youtube.com/watch?v=CsJzjR5iMLAMancini was out of his class in this fight in every category except heart.

Boxing has changed due to the business practices of the sport and I think because of the televised nature of the sport that depends on big fights. You can't always have big fights but the market depends on the big fights and they have passed for boxing.
But before the television there were hundreds of small boxing venues each with developing talent. Often times there would be neighborhood rivalries Think Benny Leonard. In the days of Rocky Graziano NYC had quite a few local fight arenas and fights often.
You do not see this anymore. This has contributed to the demise of the sport. I truly feel television killed it.
